Wood Creatives
The Wood Creatives enjoy daytime meet-ups in a large, light, well-equipped workshop in Newhaven where adults can create, practise and learn to work with wood. Budding artists or experienced craftspeople are invited to use the facilities to achieve whatever they need to fulfil their personal creative aims. We are a diverse group of people from different backgrounds and with different skills who are happy to help new members with informal technical and practical guidance.
Our workspace has an excellent range of machinery and hand tools available as well as our own wood stocks (much of it recycled or repurposed), meaning all aspects of woodworking are possible: from carving, turning and sculpture through to furniture designs and restoration projects. If it involves using wood, this is the place!
Currently we open from 9.30am to 3.30pm Mondays (except bank holidays when we meet on Tuesdays), Wednesdays and Thursdays. Numbers permitting, we are considering opening on other weekdays – possibly evenings or weekends too – so that working people have the chance to get creative. If you are interested in joining, please call to arrange a visit on a day when we are open: have a look around and gather more information. We also get involved in community projects, including building bird boxes, planters, signage and other creations made from wood.
